Hednesford plans new houses for older residents

We’ve highlighted the need for more housing for older residents in the housing policy of the Neighbourhood Plan, and raised the idea of a retirement village – we’re really keen to hear what the people of Hednesford think about this!

The proposed development would be on land in Cannock Road, and would include specialist housing for the elderly, plus communal facilities, to help satisfy the growing demand for this type of housing in Hednesford.
We know there are currently 290 over-55s on the District Council’s Housing Register, who are eligible for bungalows.
There are currently no such retirement developments like this in the area.  The Plan also discusses the possibility of providing more bungalows in the town, more suited to older residents.
It still hasn’t been decided yet what form the retirement village would take.
It could offer Extra Care facilities, which are provided as partnership projects between housing associations and the County Council for residents who need support, or it could offer complexes containing flats for sale and communal social facilities.
If there is enough public support for the scheme, we’ll do further research to see which option residents would prefer.
Want to find out more?  You can find our full Neighbourhood Plan online here and then fill in a questionnaire here to have your say.
Alternatively, the Plan’s on display at Hednesford Library or Pye Green Community Centre, along with hard copies of the questionnaire if you’d prefer to fill one in that way.
You have until the end of August to have your say – we look forward to hearing your thoughts!
