Government launch of statutory consultation on Local Government Reorganisation

The Government has now launched their statutory consultation on Local Government Reorganisation in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
As part of this process, the Government is consulting on five proposals that would see existing county, city, district and borough councils replaced by a smaller number of new unitary councils.
A summary of the proposals has been published on the shared website – www.staffordshirestokeLGR.org.uk. This site has been produced to provide a clear, accessible overview and is intended for your use and for sharing more widely with your communities and networks.
This is an important opportunity for stakeholders to share views and help inform the Government’s decision making.
You will remember that the District Council submission was for a single unitary in the south of Staffordshire incorporating the council areas covered by Cannock Chase, East Staffordshire, Lichfield, South Staffordshire, Stafford Borough and Tamworth. This would complement the proposed plan from Stoke-on-Trent City Council for a single unitary in the north.
Details of the consultation, along with the summary of proposals, can be found from www.staffordshirestokeLGR.org.uk
The consultation will remain open until Thursday 26 March.
